Tecumseh was a Native American Shawnee warrior and leader who lived in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. He was born in 1768 in the Ohio Valley, and became known for his efforts to resist European settlement and expansion into Native American lands. He was a skilled orator and diplomat, and advocated for a unified Native American confederation to resist white encroachment. He led a coalition of tribes against the United States during the War of 1812, but was killed in battle in 1813. He is remembered as a hero and symbol of Native American resistance.
